Mega-Airport Istanbul sets new standards.

When Turkish Airlines’ Airbus departed Istanbul Airport on Saturday, April 6, at exactly 2:00 pm, it was a sign of the world: a logistical masterpiece had worked: with just a few months delay, the new Istanbul airport was opened. Up to 200 million passengers per year can be handled there in the future, it could become the biggest airport in the world.

In the new airport, which bears the name “Istanbul”, there are seven entrance gates, 500 check-in stations, over 200 passport control desks. Long queues should not exist here anymore. Instead, you can spend your time comfortably in the extensive duty-free shops, for which over 55,000 square meters are reserved. These are operated by a Hamburg company for the next 25 years.

And they chose PORESY as their partner and the PORESY LS One cashier solution. At the same time, the opening day marked the end of a two-year implementation phase in which an international PORESY team worked hard to meet all requirements and make a smooth start.

And PORESY once again underlines its international abilities.

In total there are 23 shops with a total of 129 cash registers. On April 6, almost all shops and cashiers went into operation with a “Big Bang Opening”. Since January 2019, some shops have already successfully launched before the grand opening.

Already on the first days after the “Big Bang” around 13,000 sales operations were processed daily. From the beginning, all systems ran smoothly and smaller adjustments could be made without exception in the background, without even being noticed in the frontend.

PORESY CEO Sascha Voelz: “The new Istanbul airport is very impressive. This mega-airport sets new standards and we are very happy to be here from the beginning. I would like to thank the entire project team again, who have made a tremendous contribution over a long time to realize this project and have achieved a top result.”
